A channel very loosely focused on London, trains, history and combinations thereof. Videos about the London Underground, steam trains, the history of London, architecture and other things that take my fancy. Sometimes there are jokes. How are you?

Helicopters, Poets and Walking Cities: Rebuilding Euston Station
What is the beautiful building, all boarded up and fenced off, at 0:54? Hope they're not pulling it down??
Looks very much like the shelter at my local station, and I'm not in the uk.
Maybe lots of railways but I lived in Camberwell SE5 for 5 years in the late 80's and transport sucked, sure there was busies (slow). Try getting West to East for example getting from Camberwell(Paulet Rd) to Greenwich. A walk or bus to Oval then tube to Waterloo or London Bridge then train to Greenwich. Or Buss to Elephant & Castle ....... or Walk to Denmark Hill ........Greenwich (not sure if that route is there any more)
I believe the DB BR425 has similiar technology as they have similiar sounds in my opinion
I were working round there in 2000 on WCRM and one day, thankfully I was elsewhere, someone threw a video cassette recorder off the bridge at Adderley Park at one of the lads. Thankfully it missed him. It’s at least one up from Stetchford. A few years later I was working on a project there and all the vehicles were locking in a secure compound it was that rough, with everyone, even me as the main contractors’s technical staff, having their boot searched. In the daytime there were grubby shoeless children playing in the street. It was almost Victorian!
The end of this video is begging for a sequel about the Croxley rail link, it's history and the plans for it's comeback, that's if it hasn't already been covered.
Very interesting. Thank you.
Surely the Stour Valley line is the one west from New Street, the line to the East (originally terminating at Curzon St) having been built by the L&B.
We can tell you're from the South East, you describe the service as infrequent half hourly. We live in Uttoxeter on the Newark-Crewe line, our trains are hourly (ish) aprt from no trains 11:00-13:00, nice 2 hour break in the middle of the day, last trains approx 22:00 and first train on Sunday around 14:00. As they are EMR reliability is not a priority and trains anywhere near "rush hour" don't expect a seat. Welcome to the world outside TFL. Thank you for making the video,🙃😉
There is no need to get in to a debate on how to pronounce Shrewsbury, mainly because there is no debate, it is pronounced Shrews-bury. End of.
Lullingstone Airport! Another one I'd never heard Jago! Well done indeed!
Just Down from my local station at Stechford....... .......i used to set up my vodeo camera and tripod there to film the outbound summer saturday traffic back in the 90s..... The road behind the platform was not a yard feed but the Down Relief to Grand Junction (got diverted over it a few times backin the 80s). Surprised you didnt mention the old Railway Hotel across the road...... ......actuaaly had a beer in there (their description, not mine) while phottig one day when it still traded as a pub. Place now undergoing much needed renovation. Looks a bit dire at first glance round there but actually still skme pretty skilled, specialist comaniesalong Bordesley Green Lane and the old Austin Commercial Cehicles sites.....
It's always nice to have a diversion away from London. Those of us that live in, or commute into, London sometimes forget that there's a whole country's worth of railway to explore.
I once hopped off the train at Addeeley Park whilst rather drunk and asked the guard if he could wait for me while I did a wee (train toilet o.o.u). He very kindly agreed, and I repaid him by delaying the train while I did the longest wee I have ever done in my life.
Berrylands...Surbiton's dingleberry station.
Was there a hint in one of the captions that you're planning a film on how to pronounce "Shrewsbury"?
I used to pass through Adderley Park on my way to and from my digs at Lea Hall during my student days in Birmingham in the seventies. I never knew half of this stuff! I only ever saw a train on that now-overgrown goods line a couple of times in four years. The railway in Birmingham is now so much more significant a part of life than it was then: in 1972, the local service was hourly off-peak and not much more in the peak.
Jago: Poor station, only 1 train every half hour Me: Good ol' 1 train every half hour, can't beat it
0:10 Jago, just say "A little while ago/back", it's simpler & cleaner. There no need for exacting timeframes
It’s pronounced Shrewsbury you tyke
Yes, it's always 'Just ten years away '😂
Not even the good folks of Shrewsbury can agree on it's pronunciation, so no problem there Jago go go. The possibility of a new stadium for one of the teams local to that area is probably on the back burner as they have recently been relegated to what is really division 3. Ten minutes down the road from us in the Staffordshire Moorlands is Uttoxeter, try getting folks to agree on it's pronunciation is again impossible. Thanks for a quickie vid, pleasant weekend.
The stour line was built between 1834 and 1838. It was opened in 1838 as part of the London and Birmingham Railway. The Stour Valley Line you referred to is the line from Galton Junction to Stourbridge Junction. That was opened in 1854. Correct Adderley Park opened in 1860.
I used to use Adderley Park virtually every day as a teenager, to go to Birmingham Wheels Skatepark (run by Stampy & Zippy yes strange names). Haven't been back there since I moved to London 30yrs ago.
You mentioned in a previous video that you had not visited the Parkland Walk, well, next Sunday, 30th June is your last chance to do so with a tour conducted by the legendary Jim Blake. The group meets outside Finsbury Park station at 10:00, hope to see you there.
I love all your Videos Jago, but can I just say, with no offence intended, you really need to sort out the lens you're using. A lot of your recent footage is quite hazy - as if the lens is dirty (which I'm sure it isn't). I think it probably has some fine scratches on it. Just notice the difference when you cut from recent to stock footage. I don't mean to be ungrateful of course. We're so lucky to have your content. Anyway, back to the video. I knew nothing about this station but now feel the urge to go when I'm in the area in October, although, from what others have said I need to be careful. It DOES look a bit rough, as many of those south inner-city Birmingham stations do. I love industrial history and I bet it was very different around there when things were at their peak.
They didn’t say it was an amazing thing, just that it was the most amazing thing about Berrylands. Perhaps it’s a polite way of saying that Berrylands is dull.
There's enough public houses with toilets in central London but the suburbs definitely could use more
0:55 It's 1837
"..my shortish video.."...The Jago is politely reminded it's..quality not quantity....I remain, etc, LeviNZ
Big Ben - a video whose time has come? Also Cleary Gardens sounds interesting too...
There is no way it's pronounced Shr"oh"sbury
So which one was the Brummy version of Yerkes?
Great stuff
Adderley Park is, as far as I know, one of only two stations with a snake in its name. The other being Aspley Guise.
... although Bradford-on-Avon is an honourable mention, having the station code [BOA]
I think adderley has a service once an hour in each direction
I liked the way that a lot of the dates in this video fitted within the 24hr clock and a new perspective of rail development can be seen. The first steam locomotive at 4 minutes past 6 in the evening, The Elizabeth line opened on 24 May 2022 so is that about 25mins past 10 at night.
you, Mr Hazzard, may not want to get into a pronunciation debate over "Shrewsbury", but I'm sure it will happen. with or without your say-so.
My vote would go to Longcrss station although I haven't seen it for many years it certainly used to be a very sad lonely looking place !
There needs to be a debate on how to pronounce certain places, once and for all.. perhaps it could be titled 'The Taming of the Shrewsbury'
My favourite Shakespeare play is "The Taming of the Shrow" 😉
Interesting that Multiple Units stopped at Adderley Park
Thank you for doing videos around birmingham, maybe do a series on west midands railways, there is a lot here . ❤❤☮☮✌✌
Birmingham - undisputed centre of awful train liveries - orange and burgundy, orange and black and the pacer mint option - all hideous!
For unclear pronounciation, as a resident of east london - the town is prounounced the same as Shrewsbury Road, in Plaistow. E7
This video stinks!!!! (oh, hang on a moment...)
Did you have a good time in Birmingham Jago??? 😉🚂🚂🚂
This video is missing a victorian entrepreneur with moustache . I demand my money back
Good for you he isn't more important than you. And why couldn't he ask you himself
You should have called it a Cannonball trip
after the jazz musician Cannonball Adderley
Used to live near there. The bridge visible at 2:35 was a viewing point about half a mile from my house. Used to wander down and watch BR standard tanks pulling slam door suburban stock in the rush hour. Saw my first class 40 and 45 diesels there. On the opposite side of Adderly Park road was Morris Commercials. I saw a big old warehouse blazing just up the hill. If you walked on another half a mile you'd arrive at Saltley she'd and gas plant.
Vangelis’ synthesiser murmurs gently in the background…I've seen things you people wouldn't believe... BR standard tanks pulling slam door suburban stock in the rush hour. A big old warehouse blazing just up the hill. All those moments will be lost in time, like tears in rain... Time to get my coat.
When you put it like that then yes. Actually I mean "Yes". 😂
